World Famous
Some people become famous for kindness, courage or big discoveries. Let's meet a few world-famous people whose ideas still inspire children everywhere.
Did you know?
On 18 July, people celebrate Mandela Day. They spend 67 minutes helping others. That is one minute for each year Mandela worked for fairness!
Malala Yousafzai won the Nobel Peace Prize at just 17. She shared it with Kailash Satyarthi of India!
Marie Curie was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. She won it twice, in two different sciences!
Try this: 67 Minutes of Kindness
Can you give 67 minutes to helping, just like on Mandela Day? Spread them over one week. Water the plants for 10 minutes. Help tidy up for 15 minutes. Read to a younger child for 10 minutes. Keep a chart and add up your minutes. Did you reach 67? How did helping make you feel?
Go further: The Nobel Prize
Alfred Nobel was a scientist and inventor from Sweden. He left his money to give prizes to people who help the world. The first Nobel Prizes were given in 1901. Today, prizes go to scientists, writers, peacemakers and others. They are handed out every year on 10 December. Each winner gets a gold medal. Which prize would you like to win one day?
