The Five Senses

Panorama GK 1

You see, hear, smell, taste and touch the world every day. Let's find out some surprising things about your five senses!

Did you know?

  1. Your tongue has tiny taste buds. They help you taste sweet, salty, sour and bitter things.

  2. Food tastes less yummy when your nose is blocked. Smell helps you taste!

  3. Your ears do two jobs. They help you hear, and they also help you balance!

Try this: Mystery Bag

Ask someone to put five safe things in a bag. Try a spoon, a cotton ball, a leaf, a key and a toy. Close your eyes. Put your hand in and feel one thing. Is it soft, hard, smooth or rough? Guess what it is! Then swap turns.

Go further: Reading with Fingers

Some people cannot see. They can read with their fingertips! They use Braille, a kind of writing made of tiny raised dots. Each pattern of dots stands for a letter. Louis Braille invented it. He lost his sight as a little boy. Look for Braille dots on some lift buttons!
