Rhymes

Panorama GK 1

Twinkle, twinkle! Rhymes are fun to sing and easy to remember. Let's play with words that sound alike.

Did you know?

  1. Rhyming words end with the same sound, like 'cat', 'hat' and 'mat'.

  2. 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star' and the ABC song have the same tune! Sing them both and check.

  3. Rhymes are sung in every language. Telugu children sing 'Chandamama raave', asking the moon to come.

Try this: Rhyme Chain

Play this with your family. Say a word, like 'cat'. The next person says a word that rhymes, like 'hat'. Keep going: 'bat', 'mat', 'sat'! If someone gets stuck, they start a new word. Try 'sun', 'cake' and 'star' next.

A haiku is a very short poem from Japan. It has just three lines. A haiku does not need to rhyme. It often talks about nature, like rain, frogs or flowers. Write your own! Line 1: something you see. Line 2: what it is doing. Line 3: how it makes you feel.
