Do Good, Be Good

Knowing Right from Wrong

Panorama GK 2 Book page 47

Knowing right from wrong is a kind of superpower! Even monkeys know when something is unfair. Let's meet people who chose to do the right thing.

Did you know?

  1. India's motto, 'Satyameva Jayate', means 'Truth alone triumphs'. It is written below our State Emblem.

  2. In a test, a capuchin monkey got cucumber. Its partner got grapes for the same job. Sometimes the first monkey threw its cucumber back!

  3. In a 2012 race, the leader stopped too early by mistake. Runner Iván Fernández Anaya did not pass him. He guided him to the finish!

Try this: What Would You Do?

Make four cards with tricky moments. 1. You find a pencil that is not yours. 2. You break a friend's crayon by mistake. 3. A friend asks to copy your test answers. 4. You win a game. Pick a card. Act out the right thing to do with your family. Talk about how each choice makes others feel.

Go further: The Boy Who Would Not Copy

An inspector (a school checker) gave young Mohandas Gandhi's class a spelling test. Mohandas spelt the word 'kettle' wrong. His teacher nudged him with a shoe. It was a hint to copy from the boy next to him. But Mohandas did not copy. He was the only one with a mistake! Later he wrote, 'I never could learn the art of copying.'
