What's Different?

Panorama GK 2 Book page 33

Some things look almost the same, but not quite! Sharp eyes can spot the difference. Even animal experts play 'spot the difference'.

Did you know?

  1. Crocodile or alligator? A crocodile has a pointy, V-shaped snout. Even with its mouth shut, its bottom teeth still show!

  2. An Asian elephant's trunk tip has one 'finger'. An African elephant's trunk tip has two!

  3. Butterfly or moth? Most butterflies have antennae (feelers) with little knobs at the tips. Many moths have feathery ones.

Try this: Spot the Swap

Read these two lines slowly. Line 1: cat, sun, kite, ball, drum. Line 2: cat, sun, kite, bell, drum. One word has changed. Which one? Now play a memory game. Put 6 small things on a tray. Let a friend look for 30 seconds. Then hide one thing. Can they spot what is missing?

Show answer

'ball' changed to 'bell'.

Go further: Cheetah or Leopard?

Cheetahs and leopards are both spotty big cats. But look closely! A cheetah has round, solid black spots. It also has two black lines running from its eyes to its mouth. They look like tear marks! A leopard has no tear marks. Its spots are rosettes, shaped like little roses or rings. Next time you see a big cat picture, check its spots!
