Do Good, Be Good
Come Dine with Me!
Mealtimes are happy times! Let's learn good table manners. Let's also see how people eat around the world.
Did you know?
In Japan, slurping noodles like ramen and soba is often fine. It is not seen as rude!
A thali is a big plate with small bowls called katoris. Each katori holds a different dish.
In Ethiopia, people share food from one big plate. They scoop it up with a soft bread called injera.
Try this: Set the Table
Help set the table for a family meal. First, wash your hands. Put a plate in front of each chair. Place a spoon by each plate and a glass at the top. Fold a napkin for each person. After the meal, help clear the plates too!
Go further: Everyone Eats Together
At a gurdwara langar, anyone can come and eat for free. People sit together on the floor. Young or old, rich or poor, everyone eats the same food. Volunteers cook and serve the meal. Sharing a meal like this shows that we are all equal.
