Make Your Own Music
You do not need a shop to get an instrument! Glasses, rubber bands and boxes can all make music. Let's make some noise!
Did you know?
Sound happens when something shakes very fast. This shaking is called vibration.
Put your hand on your throat and hum. Can you feel a buzz? That is vibration!
A thick rubber band makes a lower sound than a thin one.
Try this: Steel Glass Music
Line up five steel glasses. Pour a little water in the first glass. Pour more in the next, and so on. Gently tap each glass with a spoon. Listen! Which glass sounds the highest? Which sounds the lowest? Now play a tune.
Go further: Jal Tarang
Jal tarang is an old Indian instrument. 'Jal' means water and 'tarang' means waves. The musician fills many bowls with different amounts of water. Then they tap the edges with thin sticks. Each bowl sings a different note! In Vienna, Austria, one band even plays instruments made from vegetables!
