India is getting ready to send its own astronauts into space. This mission is called Gaganyaan. “Gagan” means sky, and “yaan” means vehicle.
The Gaganyaan spaceship has two main parts. The crew module is where the astronauts will sit. The service module is the other part. The two parts are joined together. Wires and pipes connect them.
Before coming back to Earth, the two parts must come apart. Only the crew module comes home. The service module’s job is then over.
This step must work perfectly. So ISRO tested it again and again on the ground. The tests were done at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre. It is in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. ISRO shared the news on 16 October 2026.
The tests went well. The two parts came apart just as planned. Important machines inside the crew module stayed safe. They were not harmed by the strong jolt (shock).
The first Gaganyaan flight is called G1. It will be uncrewed. That means no people will be on board. Instead, a robot named Vyommitra will fly. Vyommitra is a half-humanoid robot. ISRO is aiming to launch G1 in 2026.
Testing many times helps keep future astronauts safe.
Think about it: Why do you think ISRO is sending a robot first, before sending people?
