Did you know?
A group of giraffes can be called a 'tower', and a group of zebras a 'dazzle'. The names fit: giraffes are very tall, and all those stripes really do dazzle!
A group of starlings is called a 'murmuration'. Huge flocks of these birds swirl together in the sky, making amazing shapes that keep changing.
Many unusual group names come from a book printed in England in 1486, called the Book of St Albans. It included a long list of names for groups of animals.
Try this: Invent Your Own
Make up group names for things around you! What would you call a group of mosquitoes: a 'buzz'? A group of giggling friends: a 'giggle'? A pile of rotis: a 'stack'? Write five group names of your own, draw a picture for each one, and ask your family to vote for the funniest.

Some animals get different group names depending on where they are! Penguins waddling on land can be called a 'waddle', but when they float together in water, they are a 'raft'. Not all of these names are used in everyday talk, and many are just for fun. Look up a group name for your favourite animal. Is it a prickle of porcupines, a smack of jellyfish or a bloat of hippos?
