Did you know?
An octopus has three hearts and blue blood! Two hearts pump blood through its gills, and the third pumps it around the body. A copper-rich substance in its blood makes it bluish.
Wombats, furry animals from Australia, make cube-shaped poop! An adult can leave 80 to 100 little cubes in one night, and uses them to mark its home area.
Flamingos get their pink colour from their food! Natural colours (pigments) in the tiny plants and creatures they eat turn their feathers pink. Flamingos can be seen in India too.
Try this: Two Truths and a Fib
Write three animal 'facts' on slips of paper: two true ones you found in a book, and one fib you made up. Read them out to your family. Can they spot the fib? Then check the true facts together in a second book or a trusted website. Good fact-finders always check twice!
Go further: The Bee Dance
When a honeybee finds flowers full of nectar, it flies home and does a 'waggle dance' shaped like the number 8. The direction of the waggle tells other bees which way to fly, compared to the Sun. The longer the waggle lasts, the farther away the flowers are! The scientist Karl von Frisch, who helped work out what the dance means, won a Nobel Prize.
