India has many sporting heroes! Some lift huge weights. Some run like the wind. Some flip and fly through the air!

Did you know?

  1. As a girl, Mirabai Chanu from Manipur carried heavy bundles of firewood easily. She grew up to win weightlifting silver at the Tokyo Olympics!

  2. Runner P.T. Usha is called the 'Payyoli Express'. At the 1984 Olympics, she missed a medal by just one-hundredth of a second!

  3. In 2016, Dipa Karmakar from Tripura became India's first woman gymnast at the Olympics. She came fourth in the vault final!

Try this: Practise Like a Champion

Champions practise a little every day. Pick one skill, like skipping, catching or bouncing a ball. Draw a chart with 7 boxes, one for each day of the week. Practise for 5 minutes every day. Write your best score in that day's box. Did your score grow by the end of the week? That is how champions get better!

Go further: Magnificent Mary

Mary Kom grew up in a village in Manipur, where her parents were farmers. She worked very hard at boxing, day after day. She became world champion six times! She is the only woman boxer to win that world title six times. In 2012, she won an Olympic bronze medal too. People call her 'Magnificent Mary'. What would you like to practise every day?
