Endangered 'Animates'
Many cartoon heroes are based on real animals that need our help. Let's meet some of India's own endangered animals, and the good news about them!
Did you know?
Wild Asiatic lions live only in Gujarat, in and around Gir. In 2025, 891 were counted. Their numbers keep growing!
Kaziranga National Park in Assam has more one-horned rhinos than anywhere else on Earth!
The lion-tailed macaque is an endangered monkey of the Western Ghats. Its tail ends in a tuft, like a lion's tail!
Try this: Create a Cartoon Hero
Pick an endangered Indian animal, like the gharial or the Great Indian Bustard. Turn it into a cartoon hero. Give it a name and a superpower that comes from its real life. A rhino hero might have super-tough skin! Draw your hero and write one way it asks children to help it.
Go further: Project Tiger
Tigers were once in great danger in India. So, on 1 April 1973, India started Project Tiger. It began with nine special forests called tiger reserves. Now there are more than 50! In 2022, India counted about 3,682 wild tigers. That is almost three out of every four wild tigers in the world!
