Do Good, Be Good
Manners Matter
Please, thank you and sorry are magic words! Good manners make people smile. Let's see how people greet each other around the world.
Did you know?
'Namaste' means 'I bow to you'. We join our palms to greet someone.
In Japan, people often bow to say hello, thank you and sorry.
In New Zealand, Māori people may greet by gently pressing noses. This greeting is called a hongi.
Try this: Magic Words Challenge
For one whole day, use the magic words: 'please', 'thank you' and 'sorry'. Ask your family to give you a star each time you remember. Count your stars at bedtime. Can you get even more stars tomorrow?
Go further: Good Manners on the Phone
When you answer the phone, say 'Hello!' clearly and kindly. If the call is not for you, say 'Please hold on'. Then call a grown-up. Do not shout across the house! Never tell your address to someone you do not know. On a video call, wait for your turn to speak. Good manners work everywhere!
